Overview

Connecting African Agricultural Production to Global Demand

BV Holdings PLC operates an integrated agricultural sourcing and export business across sub-Saharan Africa. We work directly with farmers, cooperatives, and aggregators to source high-quality agricultural commodities at scale, and we move those commodities through a controlled supply chain to international buyers who require consistent quality and reliable delivery.

Our role is not simply to broker transactions. We manage the process — sourcing, quality control, aggregation, packaging, documentation, logistics, and delivery — so that international buyers receive a professional, dependable service that meets their procurement requirements every time.

We operate this business as part of BV Holdings PLC’s broader group structure, which provides access to integrated logistics infrastructure through BV Logistics & Trade Ltd, warehousing and storage facilities through BV Infrastructure & Estates Ltd, and disciplined financial and governance oversight from the Holdings board.

“We do not just export commodities. We deliver supply chain reliability — from the farm to the buyer’s loading dock.”
01

Direct Sourcing at Scale

We source directly from farmers and cooperatives across our operating regions, aggregating volume sufficient to meet the requirements of institutional international buyers — not just spot market parcels.

02

Controlled Quality from Field to Port

Quality is managed at every stage — from field assessment and grading at sourcing point, through storage and processing, to final inspection before export. We do not accept or ship product that does not meet our standards.

03

Integrated Logistics Capability

Our export operations are backed by BV Logistics & Trade Ltd’s freight and corridor capabilities. Commodity movements from sourcing locations to port and through to buyer delivery are coordinated within the group’s logistics infrastructure.

04

Compliance and Documentation

All export shipments are managed in full compliance with destination market requirements, including phytosanitary certification, export licencing, origin documentation, and buyer-specific quality certification where required.

Supply Chain Process

How We Move Product from Farm to Market

Every shipment follows a defined five-step process. This structure is what makes BV Holdings a reliable export partner — not just a spot-market participant. Our process is the same for every commodity, every shipment, and every buyer relationship.

01
Step One
Sourcing from Farmers & Cooperatives
We source directly from farmers and cooperatives in primary agricultural production regions. Direct sourcing gives us control over the supply chain from the earliest stage — allowing us to set quality requirements at the point of purchase rather than attempting to manage them later in the chain.
  • Established relationships with farmer cooperatives and aggregator networks in operating regions
  • Pricing and volume agreements negotiated at farm-gate or cooperative level
  • Initial quality assessment conducted at point of purchase — substandard product rejected
  • Seasonal sourcing calendar maintained for each commodity to manage supply planning
  • Local sourcing teams managing relationships and logistics from collection point to aggregation
02
Step Two
Quality Control & Grading
All commodities undergo quality assessment and grading before entering our aggregation and storage facilities. This step is non-negotiable — product that does not meet grade requirements is not accepted into the export supply chain. Grading standards are aligned with the requirements of destination markets and buyer specifications.
  • Commodity-specific quality assessment criteria applied at intake
  • Moisture content, impurity levels, and physical condition assessed for all commodities
  • Commodity-specific parameters assessed — bean count (cocoa, cashew), outturn ratio (cashew), cup quality (coffee)
  • Samples retained from each lot for traceability and buyer inspection purposes
  • Third-party inspection and testing available for buyer-specified verification requirements
03
Step Three
Aggregation & Storage
Graded commodities are aggregated into export-ready volumes at our storage facilities. Proper storage is critical to maintaining the quality achieved at grading — and is an area where many informal operators lose the quality gains made earlier in the chain. Our storage facilities meet the requirements of international export standards.
  • Dry, clean, secure storage facilities managed by BV Infrastructure & Estates Ltd
  • Commodity separation maintained — no co-mingling of different grades or origins
  • Pest control and fumigation protocols maintained at all storage facilities
  • Regular stock condition monitoring throughout storage period
  • Volume tracking and inventory management systems for accurate export lot management
04
Step Four
Logistics & Export Coordination
Export logistics are coordinated through BV Logistics & Trade Ltd, our group logistics subsidiary. This integration gives us direct control over the movement of commodities from storage facility to port, and through to final delivery coordination. Export documentation is prepared and managed by our trade operations team in full compliance with destination market requirements.
  • Inland freight coordination from storage facility to export port — managed by BV Logistics & Trade Ltd
  • Container booking, freight forwarding, and shipping agent coordination
  • Export documentation preparation — shipping instructions, bill of lading, packing list, commercial invoice
  • Regulatory documentation management — phytosanitary certificates, fumigation records, origin certificates
  • Pre-shipment inspection coordination for buyers requiring independent third-party verification
05
Step Five
Delivery to International Buyers
Final delivery is coordinated with the buyer’s nominated port agent, customs broker, and receiving logistics provider. We manage the handover process through to delivery confirmation and document presentation. Post-shipment, we provide full documentation packages and are available to address any post-delivery quality or logistics queries from the buyer.
  • Container tracking from port of loading to port of destination
  • Full document package issued on shipment: BL, phytosanitary, origin, quality analysis, invoice
  • Coordination with buyer’s agent at destination port for smooth customs clearance
  • Post-delivery quality dispute management handled through our trade team
  • Delivery confirmation and contract close-out completed on receipt acknowledgement
Quality Assurance

Quality Is Managed, Not Assumed

Quality assurance at BV Holdings is not a final inspection before shipment. It is a process applied at every stage of the supply chain — from the point of purchase through storage, processing, packaging, and pre-shipment verification. This approach is what allows us to offer consistent quality to buyers across multiple shipments and seasons.

Product Inspection at Intake
Every lot sourced is physically inspected and sampled at intake. Visual inspection, moisture measurement, and commodity-specific assessments are conducted before the product enters our aggregation and storage pipeline. Product failing intake assessment is rejected and not entered into the export chain.
Grading Standards
We grade all commodities to internationally recognised standards aligned with the requirements of destination markets. Grading parameters are commodity-specific and documented in lot records maintained throughout the supply chain. Buyers may specify their own grading standards within the framework of our quality system, and we will grade to meet those specifications.
Export Compliance
All shipments are prepared in full compliance with the export requirements of the country of origin and the import requirements of the destination market. Phytosanitary certification, fumigation records, and origin documentation are standard for all shipments. Buyer-specific compliance requirements are accommodated within our documentation management process.
Packaging & Handling
Commodities are packaged in materials appropriate to the product and destination market requirements — jute bags, PP bags, GrainPro bags, or bulk container loading depending on commodity and buyer specification. Handling procedures throughout the supply chain are designed to minimise product damage and quality deterioration between grading and delivery.
Standards & Certifications
Documentation provided on all export shipments
Phytosanitary Certificate — Issued by the national plant protection authority of the exporting country, confirming the commodity meets the phytosanitary requirements of the destination country.
Certificate of Origin — Confirms the country of origin of the exported commodity, required for customs clearance and preferential tariff access in key destination markets.
Fumigation Certificate — Confirms that the commodity and/or packaging has been treated against pests as required by destination market import regulations.
Quality Analysis Report — Commodity-specific laboratory analysis confirming moisture content, impurity levels, and other grade parameters — issued per lot.
Aflatoxin / Mycotoxin Testing — Applicable to maize, groundnuts, and other commodities susceptible to mycotoxin contamination. Testing to EU or buyer-specified limits available.
Non-GMO Declaration — Applicable to soybeans and maize. Chain of custody documentation maintained from field to export to support non-GMO claims required in EU and other markets.
Pre-Shipment Inspection — Third-party inspection by an accredited inspection company available for buyers requiring independent verification of quality, weight, and condition before shipment.
Target Markets

Export Markets & International Demand

Our export commodities serve four primary international market regions. Each region has specific demand characteristics, quality requirements, and commercial relationship models that we understand and operate within.

01
🇪🇺
Market 01
Europe
Europe is the primary destination market for African cocoa, coffee, and sesame. European buyers — including chocolate manufacturers, coffee roasters, and food processors — require consistent quality, certified documentation, and reliable supply under formal contracts. Traceability and compliance with EU import regulations are critical requirements for this market.

🌏
Market 02
Asia
Asia — particularly China, Vietnam, India, and Japan — is a major destination for cashew nuts (for processing), sesame seeds (for food and oil processing), and soybeans. Asian processors are high-volume buyers who operate on regular shipment schedules. Consistent volume, reliable delivery timelines, and competitive pricing are the primary commercial requirements for Asian export relationships.

🌍
Market 03
Middle East
The Middle East is a significant destination for sesame seeds, maize, and soybeans, driven by food processing demand across Gulf and Levantine markets. Middle Eastern buyers typically operate through commodity trading houses and require formal supply agreements with defined quality and delivery parameters. Regional trade routes from East Africa support efficient and cost-effective shipping to Middle Eastern ports.

🌎
Market 04
North America
North American buyers — primarily specialty coffee importers, cocoa processors, and commodity traders — represent a growing export destination for African premium agricultural commodities. The North American market places high value on origin specificity, traceability, and ethical sourcing credentials alongside price competitiveness. Specialty coffee and fine flavour cocoa are the primary commodities for this market.

Business Model

How We Generate Revenue

The agricultural export business generates revenue through structured commercial arrangements that provide predictability for both BV Holdings and our buyers. We operate across four revenue models, applied depending on the commodity, the buyer relationship, and the commercial requirements of the transaction.

Bulk Commodity Export Contracts
Fixed-volume, fixed-price or basis-priced export contracts with institutional buyers
Primary
Forward Supply Agreements
Pre-season supply agreements committing volume at agreed quality and delivery terms
Primary
Spot Market Sales
Opportunistic commodity sales at spot prices when contract coverage is exceeded by available supply
Secondary
Supply Chain Service Fees
Quality inspection, grading, and logistics coordination services for third-party exporters using our infrastructure
Secondary

Revenue is generated through the margin between the farm-gate sourcing cost and the export sale price, net of logistics, quality assurance, storage, documentation, and freight costs. Supply chain control — owning and managing each stage rather than outsourcing it — is the primary mechanism for margin retention and protection.

Commercial Structure

Revenue Model
Contract-First
We prioritise forward contract coverage before committing sourcing capital, reducing price risk on committed volumes.
Pricing Framework
Market-Based
Prices referenced to international commodity benchmark prices (ICE, LIFFE) plus quality and logistics premium.
Payment Terms
LC / TT
Letter of Credit preferred for new relationships. Telegraphic Transfer available for established counterparties with approved credit terms.
Minimum Order
20 FCL
Minimum export lot of one 20-foot container. Multi-container and bulk vessel shipments accommodated for qualifying volumes.
Operational Advantage

Why International Buyers Choose BV Holdings

Our operational advantages are structural — built into how the business is designed, not dependent on favourable conditions in any single season. They make us a more reliable supplier than commodity traders who operate without integrated supply chain infrastructure.

Strong Sourcing Network
Direct relationships with farmers and cooperatives across primary production regions in sub-Saharan Africa. These relationships are built over time and provide priority access to supply — not dependent on spot market availability when procurement is needed.
Integrated Logistics Support
Logistics are handled through BV Logistics & Trade Ltd, our group logistics subsidiary. This means we manage commodity movements from storage facility to port without relying on third-party freight operators for critical parts of the supply chain.
Consistent Supply Capacity
We maintain forward supply coverage across multiple commodities in multiple geographies, which allows us to fulfil contract volumes even when supply conditions in a single region are disrupted. Geographic diversification across sourcing regions reduces our exposure to localised harvest risk.
Scalable Operations
Our sourcing and logistics infrastructure is designed to scale. As buyer demand and contract coverage grow, we expand sourcing relationships and storage capacity within the same operational framework — without restructuring the business model or the quality management process.
Supply Chain Stages Controlled
5 of 5
